Our mission is to provide a well-rounded Greek language program which instills a sense of pride in Hellenism, Orthodoxy, and Greek American Identity and Community; promotes bilingualism and positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors.
Hellenic American Academy offers a variety of Greek language programs to address the needs of all learners. In all our programs we offer classes which cover all levels of language competency from beginners to advance. From the beginning level, students learn to speak, read and write in Greek in a motivating and challenging environment.
Students also learn about the Greek culture, heritage, Greek orthodox religion, history and literature through fun and engaging activities and projects and through their participation in cultural events. All our programs prepare students to participate in the Examination for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek (Ellinomatheia Test), the only official title of proficiency in Modern Greek valid worldwide. Our Greek language program is recognized by the Greek Ministry of Education and the Illinois Board of Education.
Our students who complete 2 years of Greek language at the high school level can receive foreign language credit in many American public high schools. Additionally, students who pass the Ellinomatheia B1 exams, can receive the seal of bi-literacy in their American high school diplomas.
