Dear Prospective Parents,
I‘d like to begin by thanking you for inquiring about our school. We would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your family. Come visit us. As educators, our goal is to accommodate individual interests, abilities, and rates of learning while fostering a climate of teamwork and mutual support.
Our teachers here at the academy are actively engaged in mapping the students’ curriculum throughout the year. The most current research in education suggests that children learn best through inquiry and integration. Our belief is that by utilizing an integrated curriculum we will enrich the learning experience of every child at our school.
Integrated curriculum is an educational approach that prepares children for lifelong learning. We know that we must look at education as a process for developing abilities required by real life, rather than departmentalized subject matter. Thus, bringing together various aspects of the curriculum into meaningful association to focus upon broad areas of study. We view learning and teaching in a holistic way that reflects the real world, which is interactive. In general, integrated curriculum or interdisciplinary curriculum include:
- A combination of subjects
- An emphasis on projects
- Sources that go beyond textbooks
- Relationships among concepts
- Thematic units as organizing principles
- Flexible schedules
- Flexible student groupings
Here’s to new beginnings,
Sincerely,
Angie Maglaris
